Group Discussion:

Topic: "It is easy to open a shop but to keep it running is an art.

The GD started off with one person talking about being truthful and morality. When I tried to cut in and get back to the topic, he shouted "Please let me finish my point first". It set in a bad mood I guess but I was still smiling and I saw that others were smiling too. After this everyone started to pitch in points and sometimes it got chaotic. The guy who started didn't pitch in anymore, and very soon the panelists intervened and made us stop. And then came the atomic bomb. One of the panelists (later found out to be Mr. Anil Pathak, coordinator of admissions) said : "This was one of the worst GDs I have ever witnessed, nobody was ready to listen and as a result we couldn't assess anyone properly since we couldn't make out anything clearly"
We were then asked to write the summary of the GD in the page provided after which we left.

Needless to say, the atmosphere outside was very dejected as everyone thought that the entire batch would get bad marks. I though thought that the panel was being extra harsh, maybe checking our nerves.

Personal Interview :
I was the third-last to be called inside. I was in panel 1. Panel 2, which started simultaneously, finished 2 hours before panel 1. The interview had the following panelists :
P1= Mr. Anil Pathak
P2= A rounded professor who I think has a maths background because he simply grilled me in maths.
Me

The two panelists had gone for a walk outside and while returning they called me in so I didn't have to say the customary "May I come in"

Me: Good Afternoon sir, (turning to P2) Good afternoon to you too.
P1 and P2 : Good Afternoon. Sit sit, be at ease, no need to be tensed. (As if that were true :D)
P2 : So what is the difference between Applied Electronics and Electronics ?? (Not AGAIN !!!)
Me : Sir basically Applied Electronics Engineers are much more application and industry based. That is our job is more practical and factory-related as compared to Electronics.
P2: So what do pure Electronics Engineers do ??
Me : Sir they can also work in industries but they are more R&D oriented, a bit more into theoretical knowledge. Otherwise it is quite similar.
P2: I see. So what is the difference between summation and integration ?? (Here starts the maths grilling of my life)
Me : Sir in integration there is a slight amount of assumption taken and hence a wee amount of error whereas it is not so in case of summation as in case of summation of natural numbers. (One of my friends is doing B.Sc. in Maths and he said that is was actually a valid point :P)
P2 : (Shakes his head and then asks ) So what is the difference between an algebraic function and a non-algebraic function ??
Me : Sorry sir, I don't know.
P1 (suddenly) : So why is logarithmic call logarithmic ?? How do you find log values ?? (HUH !!!)
Me : Sir basically we find numbers to a particular base.
P1 : That is how you find the Log, but why is it called Logarithmic ???
Me : Sorry sir, I don't know ??
P2 : (writes down an equation y=a.b^x) Tell me is this function linear or non-linear??
Me :  Sir it's non-linear
P2 : Is it an exponential function ???
Me : Yes sir I think it is.
P2 : So how can you make this a linear function ??
Me : (confusedly) Sir, take log on both sides.
P2: Don't ask me, do it.
Me : Log y = x Log (a.b) (AAAAAH !! Basic mistake)
P2 :  See that is an elementary mistake. Did I say that it is a.b whole to the power x ???
Me : Sorry sir it will be Log y = Log a + x Log b
P2 : Yes. So is that linear ??
Me : Sir I am not sure, I don't think so since x is related to Log y.
P2 : No it is  linear, it is called a Log Linear function.
Me : I see sir, I didn't know that.
P1 (suddenly): So do you know Pythagoras ??
Me : Yes sir
P1 :  Where was he from France or Greece ?? (WTF is this man ???)
Me : Sir French maybe, I am not sure. (No it's Greece)
P1 : He He ! Check it out when you go back.
Me : Of course Sir.
P2 : So what are your hobbies ?? (Aah at last !!)
Me : Sit it's written there in the form.
P2 : Still you tell us. What, you want a payment to say them ?? (Had a hearty laugh)
Me : (Not finding anything funny) Of course not sir. As I wrote there sir, I love sports and like to play football the most.
P2 : Have you heard of Shiv Khera ???
Me : (boing!!) No sir
P2 : But you have written that you like reading.
Me :  I am sorry sir I have not heard of him. (As if I have heard of all the authors in the world)
P2 : So who has written "You can win"
Me : (Didn't I write that I read fiction) Sir I don't know ?? Is it Nandan Nilekani ?? (no it's Shiv Khera)
P2 : I don't know. Why are you asking me ??
Me : Sorry sir, I don't know. I am not into that genre. I read mostly fiction.
P2 : So what is the difference between fiction and novel ??
Me : (How many more weird questions will I get ???) Sir in fiction everything is made up. But in a novel you can have depiction of real events in their original manner or in a story form. (This is partially correct as novels are also mostly fictitious stories)
P2 : You have written Music in hobbies, that is quite vague isn't it ??
Me : (Have you read the whole form or not ??) Sir I...... (cut in by P1)
P1 : No no he has written that he can play the guitar and all. It's here.. you see ??
P2 : Ok ok.
P1 : So do you have any questions for us ??
Me : Yes sir I do (And I asked about the student exchange program at MDI and if they offered any scholarship for that )
P1 : (Explained. No there aren't any scholarships )
P2 : Anything else.
Me : No sir.
P2 : Thank you then, that's all.
P1 : (As I am about to leave) So what is the meaning of Ark ???
Me : Sir it's not Ark, its Arka and it is another name for the sun and Jyoti means light, so it's basically Sunlight.
P2 : Yes yes, now I get it.
Both : Thank you , Best of luck
Me : Thank you sirs

Overall a very strange  experience.I don't know what to make of the whole issue. Did I do bad, or was it actually good ?? Time will tell. Hoping for the best. But there were a lot of "I don't know"-s there. So I am quite apprehensive of the matter. Let's see !!
